Ulrike Syha has been awarded the Hamburger Förderpreis für Literatur und literarische Übersetzung

The author and former fellow Ulrike Syha has been awarded the Hamburger Förderpreis für Literatur und literarische Übersetzung (award for literature and literary translation). She received the prize for the play Herr Schuster kauft eine Straße (Mr. Schuster buys a road). The prize is awarded anually since 1983 to Hamburg based writers and literary translators. It is one of the most highly endowed prizes in German-speaking countries.

Herr Schuster kauft eine Straße is currently running at the Nationaltheater Mannheim (until end of January 2011).

Ulrike Syha was born 1976 in Wiesbaden. She studied dramaturgy at the Musik- und Theaterhochschule Leipzig. Since 2002, she has been working as a writer. In 2002, she was awarded the Kleist-Förderpreis für Junge Dramatiker (prize for emerging dramatics) for the play Autofahren in Deutschland (Driving in Germany).
