Artur Żmijewski has been appointed curator
of the 7th Berlin Biennale 2012

September 29, 2010

Artur Żmijewski has been appointed curator of the 7th Berlin Biennale for Contemporary Art by the KW Institute for Contemporary Art in Berlin. Established in 1998, the Berlin Biennale has become a major international event for contemporary art. Located in Berlin, in the midst of the vibrant cultural scene in the fast-changing capital of Germany, the Berlin Biennale has received an enthusiastic response from the audience as an experimental, forward-looking and contextual show. The six editions of the Berlin Biennale that have taken place to date explored a variety of exhibition formats and involved diverse curatorial agendas.

The 7th Berlin Biennale will take place in early 2012.

Artur Żmijewski (*1966 in Warsaw/Poland) studied sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw/Poland form 1990 to 1995 and graduated at Professor Grzegorz Kowalski’s studio. In 1999 he studied at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy of Fine Arts in Amsterdam. Artur Żmijewski was a fellow of the Akademie Schloss Solitude in 2002/2003. He collaborated with other Polish artists on the exhibition project A Need of Realism. Solitude in Ujazdowski, a presentation of Solitude artists in Warsaw between October and December 2002. The exhibition was a cooperation of the Centre for Contemporary Art Ujazdowski Castle (Warsaw) and the Akademie Schloss Solitude.
