exhibition, performance

On Thursday, April 18th, 8 pm, the Akademie opens the exhibitions of ozz, Sybille Neumeyer & Youki Hirakawa and Kontekst collective (Marko Miletic & Vida Knezevic). During the night Andrea Pivatto and guests will present the performance Distance Dialog

ozz
Yow What Then Actually – The Lullaby of Solitude
The Lullaby of Solitude is the third work in ozz’s series of singing performances. The first dates back to 2008 and is titled You Are Mine – The Anthem of Eindhoven, and the second titled I Believe – The Türkü of Turku is from 2010. Like in the earlier performances, ozz takes the viewer along with him to a previously made walk as he sings in his free improvisational style and by speaking in various languages at different locations. The texts he reads are written specifically for his performance by people he meets, knows, or is friends with. But in contrast to the previous two performances, now ozz is accompanied by neither a musician, nor a cameraman, nor a photographer, and nor a distributor.

Sybille Neumeyer & Youki Hirakawa
Silence of Nature / Nature of Silence

Silence of Nature/Nature of Silence shows works of Youki Hirakawa and Sybille Neumeyer dealing with different processes and transformations in nature. With different media, like video and installation both artists explore the visual language of silence, absence and time as well as the interferences between humans and nature.

Kontekst collective (Marko Miletic & Vida Knezevic)
On Solidarity
Student protests and blockades, based on the principle of plenum as a direct democratic student body are an increasingly present phenomenon at the universities of Belgrade, Zagreb, Ljubljana, Rijeka, Novi Sad, and other cities in this region. The key goals of these protests are related to the possibility of achieving publicly financed education that would be accessible to all, as well as to defend the autonomy of the university and the possibility for student self-organization. Even though it may not be a universally known fact, student protests based on the principles of direct democracy were also a very popular form of organization in the revolutionary student movements at the universities of Belgrade and Zagreb between the two World Wars. The basic aim of the video is to actualize a part of the forgotten history of the revolutionary student movements in the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, and to emphasize the students interconnectedness, struggle, communication, and solidarity, which often exceeded the limits of the student movements.

Kontekst collective is an autonomous organization whose work represents the process of interconnecting critical theory and practice, the field of arts and culture with a wider social action.

Distance Dialog

Distance Dialog will be performed by two professional dancers who will meet just a few days before the opening and some artists/fellows of Akademie Schloss Solitude. The performers communicate through movements, shared looks and their experience of life. A joint piece, a »dialog« with many interlocutors. A reflection on the question: How do we communicate?

On view: Friday, April 19 to Sunday, June 2, 2013
Opening Hours: Tue–Fri 10–12 am & 2–4 pm, Sat–Sun 12–5 pm
