Born 1979 in Carangola/Brazil.
Ricardo Portilho Mattos studied social communication and graphic design at Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais, Belo Horizonte/Brazil. In 2008 he completed his master studies at the Sandberg Instituut, Amsterdam/Netherlands.
His research projects take the language of graphic design as a starting point to deal with reality, and to produce work that can take form in diverse media and contexts. From 2009 to 2012 he worked as a teacher at Kabum, a free art and technology school for teenagers. Since 2011 he has been working as a teacher and tutor of academic projects in graphic design at the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais. Further, he has been running his own practice in design for diverse clients since 2008. He is a associate member of Jardim Canadá Center of Art, a residency center in Belo Horizonte area.
His works were exhibited at amongst others Cidade Gráfica, Itaú Cultural, São Paulo/Brazil (2014) and 10th Brazil Graphic Design Biennal (2013). His work was published in 2008 in the anthology Masters of Rietveld: 10 years of dutch design education, 2008.
