Born 1982 in Leuven/Belgium.

Soetkin Verstegen makes animated films with a love for documentary, experiment and storytelling. She studied audiovisual arts and scriptwriting at Sint-Lukas Brussel, Belgium, LUCA School of Arts, cultural studies at University of Leuven, Belgium, and stopmotion animation at the Bristol School of Animation of the University of the West of England, Great Britain. She lived in Portugal, Berlin/Germany and Belgium, worked as a freelance animator, puppet maker and set builder on stopmotion productions for television and film.

In 2015 she received the Anidox:Residency, a one year program for the production of hybrid animated documentary films, at The Animation Workshop of VIA University in Viborg/Denmark. The short film produced there, Mr. Sand (2016), was selected for over sixty film festivals, such as Annecy International Animated Film Festival and Market (MIFA), France, Krakow Film Festival, Poland, Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival, Toronto/Canada, Dok Leipzig, Germany, and received several awards.

At the Saari Residence of the Kone Foundation in Mynämäki/Finland, 2017, she developed a new short film, for which she is planning the production during her stay at Akademie Schloss Solitude.
