Contemporary music stepped into the spotlight at the inaugural Scottish Awards for New Music held at Glasgow’s Drygate Brewery on March 8, 2017. The awards were conceived to celebrate the talents and achievements of Scotland’s composers, musicians and sound artists.

Former Solitude fellow David Fennessy with his Hebrides Ensemble/Psappha commission playing his work Panopticon for string sextet and cimbalom won the Dorico Award for Small/medium Scale Work. In this piece the cimbalom regulates the beat and dynamic and thereby determines the future course. The cimbalom is a stringed instrument, whose strings are plucked with small rods or clappers.

David Fennessy was a fellow at Akademie Schloss Solitude in 2010 and 2011.
