»Ich weiß nicht was soll es bedeuten, dass ich so traurig bin ... « (I don’t know what it means that I feel so sad) – this familiar melody comes to the reader’s mind when reading the melancholy poems by Vipul Rikhi. Topics about love, separation, loneliness, exclusion and death expand across borders of time and space. Torn between wanderlust and longing for homeland, suffering of being alien in foreign places and not feeling secure in one’s homeland and in one’s self, the narrator experiences all nuances and depths of being alone and being left alone/ abandoned. Humour, irony and a hint of mockery light up in astute and sensitive observations of everyday life. Whether it be a nightly party, the walk through a foreign city, the visiting of a cathedral or the journey to Paris, the narrator always scratches the surface to reveal what is lying underneath. We look into a mirror.
