In conjunction with the event series »Chronicles of Work III: What’s Work Worth?« the contributions for the exhibition »What’s Work Worth« focus on the process of art production as well as on its methods and strategies. The different ways of how fellows perceive their own work, will be presented in performances, sound installations, videos and paintings. On view are contributions, commodities and materials which identify possible ways of artistic practice and deal with the manifold forms of artistic expression.
»In my work«, so Claudia Triozzi, »the question ›Doing what ?‹ has always been present; the body engaged in manufacture, the craftsman’s body, the body anticipating the mistakes of the machines in the factory, the body rehearsing day after day all the well-known and familiar gestures. So the question arises: what is a faithful representation of this body?«
By introducing the scope and scale of Amazon.com Trebor Scholz and Marcell Mars will start the discussion on the new mode of social production facilitated by new capitalist imperatives and which has become increasingly difficult to distinguish between play, consumption and production, life and work, labor and non-labor.
Following the workshop »What's Work Worth?« on Sunday, June 2, 2013, François Vatin’s talk on Monday, June 3 will center on the relationship between performance and work.
Following the past events around the main topic »Chronicles of Work« which have been addressing the changes in modern and contemporary work organization and their consequences for society, fellows of the Akademie will rather focus on the significance of their own artistic work. During the whole afternoon and evening, performances, interventions, readings, a short play, listening exercises and musical performances will be presented on the Akademie's premises.
The workshop will be made up of close reading and discussion of selections from the working manuscript »Music and the Other Scene« by Bill Dietz and Gavin Steingo (available upon registration), as well as a series of performative listening exercises – Dietz’ »tutorial diversions.«
The exhibitions of ozz, Sybille Neumeyer & Youki Hirakawa and Kontekst collective (Marko Miletic & Vida Knezevic) are on view until Sunday, June 2, 2013.
After the first two successful lectures by Akseli Virtanen (theorist of new political economy) und Alan Bass (psychoanalyst) around the main topic Chronicles of Work, the sociologist Maurizio Lazzarato will talk about the working and living conditions of freelance journalists, artists and stage technicians.
In the context of Lange Nacht der Museen, the project at Römerstraße takes up the two main themes for the fellows at Akademie Schloss Solitude this year: the intertwined notions of work and play (see also Chronicles of Work, June 2013) and The Practice of an Ephemeral Architecture (more to come in November 2013).
Since autumn 2011, the Akademie Schloss Solitude has been addressing the theme »Chronicles of Work«, centered around an extensive interdisciplinary discussion on changes in modern and contemporary work organization and their consequences for society. From January until June 2013, four internationally renowned scientists from the fields of economy, psychoanalysis, philosophy, and sociology will approach these issues in their lectures.
