Born in Stuttgart/Germany in 1990.
Hannah Häußer and Maximilian Borchert live and work in Stuttgart, where they studied, graduating in 2018 as communication designers with a focus on book design, typography and conceptualization. During their studies, they founded the HuM Collective in 2014, a design collective focused on the contemporary, responsible use of design as a practice.
In the summer of 2018, as part of their work, they initiated HuMBase, an open cultural space that serves as an experimental laboratory for new formats, an exhibition/studio space and collaborative venue offering an alternative to conventional cultural-institutional practices. HuMBase has found a temporary home for two years in a former church in the north of Stuttgart and is supported by the project funding committee for visual arts of the city of Stuttgart.
As the HuM Collective, Häußer/Borchert have already received several awards, most recently the Macau Design Award (2019) and the Certificate of Typographic Excellence of the Type Directors Club, New York/USA (2018). In 2019, their work as book designers was rewarded with a nomination to the shortlist of the German art book foundation Stiftung Buchkunst, where they featured in the categories »Most Attractive German Books« and the »Advancement Award for Young Book Design«.
