On February 6, Akademie Schloss Solitude is delighted to present <em>Midmeste<\/em>, a concert by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.akademie-solitude.de\/en\/person\/james-rushford\/\">James Rushford<\/a>\u00a0(portative organ) and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.akademie-solitude.de\/en\/person\/judith-hamann\/\">Judith Hamann\u00a0<\/a>(violoncello).<\/span>\r\n\r\n\u00bbMidmeste\u00ab derives from the Old English for \u00bbin between\u00ab or \u00bbin the middle\u00ab. The two Australian musicians, who have been collaborating in various constellations for many years, used a joint residency at Akademie Schloss Solitude to develop the work, in which they meet \u00bbin the middle\u00ab of their common interests, especially with regard to the production and embedding of \u00bbsound\u00ab in broader conceptual images, influenced by late medieval melody and harmony, pure tuning and microtonal nuances.\r\n\r\nThus, in their meditative work, they explore a network of relationships covering the interplay of their specific instruments and the surrounding space \u2014 reminiscent of a search for traces of multiple strands, outlines and connections, maps and paths in which musical materials and psychoacoustic vestiges recur.\r\n\r\nThe Australian composer and performer <span class=\"has-font-maison-neue\" style=\"font-family: Maison Neue;\">James Rushford<\/span> was a fellow at Akademie Schloss Solitude in 2018. His work is characterized by its proximity to specifically concrete music, improvisation, the avant-garde and collaged forms of expression.\r\n\r\n<span class=\"has-font-maison-neue\" style=\"font-family: Maison Neue;\">Judith Hamann<\/span> is a cellist, performer and composer and a current Solitude fellow in the field of practice Aural &amp; Physical.
