The sculpture ensemble <em>Handles<\/em> by former Solitude fellow <a href=\"https:\/\/www.akademie-solitude.de\/en\/person\/haegue-yang\/\"><span class=\"has-font-maison-neue\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Maison Neue',sans-serif; color: blue;\">Haegue Yang<\/span><\/span><\/a> offers a contemporary perspective on Schlemmer\u2019s preoccupation with humans as machines. The six sculptures with wall, floor and sound components can be interpreted as hybrids of human and technical beings. In <em>Handles<\/em>, Yang continues her previous exploration of the <em>Triadic Ballet<\/em>, combining the ideas of Schlemmer\u2019s stage costumes with 3D open source drawings of doorknobs and geometric movement patterns after George Gurdjieff (1866-1949). In addition, the sculptures are placed in an (inter-Korean) political context through sound and musical activations.\r\n\r\n<\/span><span class=\"has-font-maison-neue\" style=\"font-family: Maison Neue;\">Haegue Yang<\/span>, born in 1971, lives and works in Seoul\/South Korea and Berlin. The artist\u2019s installations, sculptures and performances can be viewed\u00a0 internationally in group and solo exhibitions and feature in the collections of the MoMA Collection, New York, and the Sammlung zeitgen\u00f6ssischer Kunst der BRD (FRG Collection of Contemporary Art). In 2018, she received the Wolfgang Hahn Prize Cologne.
