With the residency program, the three partners want to establish a long-term artistic and cultural exchange between Namibia and Germany. The first part of the program included the four-month stay of the Namibian fellows Vitjitua Ndjiharine<\/a>,\u00a0Hage Nasheotwalwa Mukwendje<\/a>, Nesindano \u00bbQues\u00ab Namises<\/a> (2021) as well as \u00a0Chantal Magano Kambrude<\/a>, Keith Vries<\/a> and Isabel Tueumuna Katjavivi<\/a> (2022) in Stuttgart. Now Akademie Schloss Solitude, National Art Gallery Namibia and Goethe-Institut Namibia welcome the Berlin-based artists Banu \u00c7i\u00e7ek T\u00fcl\u00fc<\/a> and Miriam Chebaibai Koch<\/a> to Windhoek.\r\n\r\nIn the framework of her fellowship in Namibia, artist, researcher, electronic music producer and DJ Banu \u00c7i\u00e7ek T\u00fcl\u00fc<\/strong><\/a>, whose ideas and research are based primarily in sound and sonic methodologies, will analyze colonialism within sound archives and their spatial presentation.\r\n

\u00bbIn Namibia, I recall many feelings and memories from South-East Turkey where I am originally from. The culture and everyday life resonate with me very much even though the soundscape is totally different. I can feel the same vibrations while working with great musicians who have an understanding of sound at a meta-level, as they were using language and voice for healing processes in different tribes.\u00ab\r\n(Banu \u00c7i\u00e7ek T\u00fcl\u00fc)<\/span><\/em><\/p>\r\nMiriam Chebaibai Koch<\/strong><\/a>, politically active artist and psychosocial counselor whose work centers on an examination of the decolonization and portrayal of Black realities and German dissonance, will develop a multimedia installation that inquires about factors that contribute to an Afrofuturist vision of reparation. Both artists will stay in Namibia until the end of March 2023.<\/span>\r\n

\u00bbAs a German-Kenyan, Namibia feels familiar in many (sometimes distorted) ways. I am grateful to feel such a strong pan-African connection and to learn about the history, structures, struggles of this melting pot of a country, as well as meeting up with incredible artists and activists\u00ab\r\n(Miriam Chebaibai Koch)<\/em><\/p>\r\nThe residency exchange program is embedded in a two-part workshop series curated by the Namibian historian and artist Memory Biwa, which will take place in July 2023 in Namibia and October 2023 in Germany<\/span>. Following on from Memory Biwa\u2019s work on the history of anti-colonial resistance and genocide in Namibia as well as transnational memorial and reparative processes, the workshops will deal, among other things, with the question of what relationship the work of artists can have to the process of restitution today.\r\n\r\nSWR Film Documentation<\/span>\r\nA film documentary by the SWR about the experiences of the Namibian fellows at Akademie Schloss Solitude in 2021 and 2022 can be viewed via the following link: \u00bbKulturaustausch Deutschland - Namibia<\/a><\/strong>\u00ab.\r\n\r\nAlongside interviews with the artists Vitjitua Ndjiharine<\/a>,\u00a0Hage Nasheotwalwa Mukwendje<\/a> and Nesindano \u00bbQues\u00ab Namises<\/a>, <\/u>the video showcases the work \u00bbWE ALL BLEED R.E.D. (Remembering Every Drop)\u00ab of multidisciplinary artist Chantal Magano Kambrude<\/strong><\/a>, which uses textiles and sound to retell the history of the Nama(qua)\/Herero genocide in Namibia by the German Empire from \u00a01904 to 1908. The documentation also showcases the performance piece \u00bbThe Story of a Forgotten Genocide\u00ab by poet, writer and performer Keith Vries<\/strong><\/a>, which utilizes poetry as its primary vehicle to inform audiences of Namibian and German descent about the genocide in Namibia.
