The Institutional Infrastructure: Static Support or Collapsing Scaffolding?

Artist R. Armstrong anatomizes stories of death and resurrection in the process of making »Wakes and Waking Sings.«
with R. Armstrong — Mrz 7, 2016
R. Armstrong’s deep connection to literature and history informs a practice encompassing everything from textual works to architecturally immersive audio-video installations. The work Wakes and Waking Sings spans most of the ground floor of Akademie Schloss Solitude. It is in many ways its own ritual/ized journey, within which the boundaries of life and death are confused, complicated, and disrupted. The viewer shifts between observer, mourner, witness, and initiate, destabilized like one at a wake at which the body wakes.
