Other Orders
Sam Lavigne / New York, USA — Jul 6, 2019
Sorting data has always been a basic function of the computation. Even Engelbardt’s 1968 »Mother of all Demos« featured the sorting of a seemingly benign shopping list. At the end of the day, recommendation engines are nothing more than complex sorting procedures, typically optimized for maximizing ad network revenue. Other Orders is a series of online sorting experiments that rethink the political, poetic and technical potentials of how content is ordered online.
