The group exhibition Dreaming Beyond AI: Portals Behind the Algorithm opens on April 25 at the ifa-Galerie Stuttgart. It features, among others, works by current and former Solitude fellows Hiba Ali and Mac Andre Arboleda.
Hiba Ali is currently a fellow in the Digital Practice field and presents the work Watering the Somatic Oasis.
Watering the Somatic Oasis is a VR project that uses the immediacy of technologies and somatic techniques to create a sense of slowness. Viewers are invited to put on a VR headset and attune themselves to a guided meditation. Through stimulation with digital water and bilateral movement techniques, the project restores slowness to our bodies by regulating the nervous system.
Hiba Ali presents digital art in the form of immersive digital environments, sculptural installations, moving images, garments, and sound. They use virtual reality, 3D animation, and augmented reality to slow down time and create spaces of comfort and care.
Mac Andre Arboleda is a Filipino artist who explores the digital sphere through research and activism for digital rights, with a focus on internet freedom.
The exhibition Dreaming Beyond AI: Portals Behind the Algorithm examines how algorithms shape everyday life—by capturing attention, filtering information, and influencing decisions—while critically addressing the power structures embedded in these technologies, such as colonial legacies, resource extraction, and bias.
