Ashley Scarlett is an Assistant Professor in the School of Critical and Creative Studies at the Alberta College of Art and Design (Canada). Her overarching research interests encompass historical and theoretical analyses of digital aesthetics, with recent publications appearing in ParallaxDigital Culture & Society and the Routledge Companion to Photography Theory. Dr. Scarlett’s current research project explores the histories and contemporary realities of artist residency programming associated with techno-industrial contexts. One of the theoretical tangents of this project calls for a reexamination of classical affordance theory to better account for the phenomenological complexity and political ramifications of algorithmic affordances.
