art, science & business

From 2002 to 2026, the art, science & business program of Akademie Schloss Solitude promoted the transdisciplinary dialogue between the arts, sciences and the field of economy in a unique way.

The program has offered a space for critical discourse and interdisciplinary encounters, resulting in symposia, lecture series, and workshops, frequently in collaboration with partner institutions. Contributions by fellows and invited guests are publicly available through the online archive at art-science-business.com.

Digital Cultures

Digital Cultures was initiated in 2016 as Digital Solitude by Akademie Schloss Solitude to explore, communicate, and make visible topics related to Solitude’s network and digital cultures through online events, workshops, participatory formats, and online publications.

Through its Web Residencies and various publication and mediation formats – such as the Solitude Blog and Solitude Journal – the program fostered speculative and critical engagement with artistic practice and developments in media within digital cultures. Through these initiatives, Akademie Schloss Solitude supported the exploration of how digital technologies shape contemporary artistic and cultural production.

Projects

Thematic Focus: Mutations

From 2020 to 2021, the Akademie Schloss Solitude, in collaboration with the KfW Foundation, pursued the thematic focus of Mutations with the aim of strengthening the relevance of transdisciplinary and discursive-artistic practices within society and providing new conceptual impulses in this field.

As part of the Mutations program, a group of seven fellows worked together on this topic for the first time, beginning in October 2020 and collaborating over a period of nine months.

Ecosystems of Knowledge

With the format Ecosystems of Knowledge, Akademie Schloss Solitude developed a platform for collective work in 2021, that was developed by groups of fellows around a self-determined topic.

In the framework of continuous working sessions, methods of artistic and scientific practices were shared to establish a new understanding of the subject that is being explored. The aim of the format was to develop a variety of transdisciplinary approaches and to learn from one another as a group.
