Eliana Berger is a freelance reporter. Her work focuses on social reporting, particularly on issues of forced displacement and migration, as well as knowledge-based topics. In 2025, she was awarded the Gabriel Grüner Fellowship together with photographer Eyad Abou Kasem. As part of the project, they retraced his 2015 escape route in stages, traveling from Würzburg to Damascus via the Balkan route.
In 2025, Elina Berger was also a fellow of the Journalism Connect program, where she collaborated with Indian and German journalists to develop a handbook on the topic of media trust. She has been a fellow of the Rudolf Augstein Foundation as well as holder of the Arthur F. Burns Fellowship. Eliana Berger has German-Cypriot roots and grew up in the Rhineland. Before attending the Reportageschule Reutlingen to learn the craft of narrative journalism, she worked as a business editor at the Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger.
