Kristina Miller is a curator working on artistic positions that engage with sociological phenomena.

Her focus lies on self-contained systems and spaces as well as decoupled milieus. Contemporary discourses often address realities characterized by radicalization, the search for identity and resignation. In this context, Miller examines the esoteric market as a place where anti-democratic content is transferred, and observes related social movements of vigilante justice. She uses site-specific research to examine the extent to which everyday spaces can also function as condensed venues for negotiating forms of social order, fragmentation and transgression – for example in housing complexes, suburbs, backyards or underpasses. Miller deconstructs control mechanisms and the social construction of behavior that deviates from the norm, using surveillance cameras in museums to evaluate  documentary material of accidents and thefts. In current projects, Miller explores simultaneity and transforming space-time constructions in the context of growing up in the dotcom age. Between offline and online cultures, she investigates social mechanisms that operate between analog and digital realities.

Miller’s practice combines an analytical-scientific approach, the evaluation of scene-typical visual languages, biographical work and recurring elements of field research. For her research work, Miller was awarded the research grant of the Senate Department for Culture and Social Cohesion, Berlin (2022), among others.

In collaboration with artists working across different media, Miller develops concepts and writes texts. As studio manager, she has organized works and exhibitions of international reach, also with ZK/U – Center for Art and Urbanistics, Berlin; mumok – Museum of Modern Art, Vienna/Austria; documenta, Kassel/Germany; bbk berlin.

Kristina Miller studied Sociology at the University of Vienna and Spatial Strategies at the Kunsthochschule Weißensee-Berlin.
