Michaela Melián by Jörg Koopmann

Michaela Melián, artist and musician, is known for her multimedia installations, radio plays and sound work. She is co-founder of the band F.S.K. and teaches at the Hochschule für Bildende Künste Hamburg/Germany in the Department of Time-based Media.

In recent years, her works have been exhibited at Lenbachhaus Munich/Germany; Fundació Juan Miró Barcelona/Spain; Kunsthal Rotterdam/Netherlands; Deichtorhallen Hamburg; Staatsgalerie Stuttgart/Germany; Kunsthalle Mannheim/Germany; Lentos Museum Linz/Austria; Cubitt London/United Kingdom; Ludlow New York; NY/USA and The War and Women’s Human Rights Museum; Seoul/South Korea.

In 2010, she was commissioned by the City of Munich to create Memory Loops, an acoustic memorial to the victims of National Socialism. Michaela Melián has received numerous awards for her work, including the War Blinded Audio Play Prize – Hörspielpreis der Kriegsblinden for Föhrenwald in 2006, the Art Prize of the City of Munich in 2010, the Grimme Online Award in 2011, the Edwin Scharff Art Prize of the City of Hamburg in 2018 and the Roland for Art in Public Space of the City of Bremen/Germany. She lives in Munich and Hamburg.
