Yuri Umemoto is a composer living in Tokyo/Japan, whose work is performed in Europe. His music is built through notation, recording, and editing, often incorporating recorded voices and songs, and blending a naive approach to language with influences from commercial anime and consumer culture, while weaving in meditative instrumental sounds. He creates works ranging from stage performances to recordings. His practice spans classical and contemporary music/art, as well as club, experimental, ambient, and pop music scenes.

Upcoming projects include the opera crypt_, commissioned by the Münchener Biennale, co-produced with Ultima Oslo Contemporary Music Festival, Oslo Sinfonietta, Black Box Teater Oslo, and Klang Festival Copenhagen, scheduled to premiere at the Münchener Biennale, Munich/Germany (2026).

Recent performances include a portrait concert at Les Urbaines Festival, Lausanne/Switzerland (2025); Solistenensemble Kaleidoskop at Radialsystem and Sammlung Hoffmann, Berlin/Germany (2025); Brother Tree Sound at Kings Place, London/UK (2025); PODIUM Esslingen Festival, Germany (2024–2025); Thüringer Bachwochen, Germany (2024).
