The Staatliche Akademie der Bildenden Künste Stuttgart

The Staatliche Akademie der Bildenden Künste Stuttgart (ABK Stuttgart) is distinguished by its diverse range of disciplines, which is unique in Germany. With 22 degree programmes in the fields of architecture, design, fine arts, art education, conservation and restoration, and art history and aesthetics, it offers around 850 students a broad range of opportunities for study and research in the fine and applied arts. ABK Stuttgart stands for interdisciplinarity, diversity and openness to the world. Artistic and experimental research approaches, as well as innovative and forward-looking thinking, are particular hallmarks of studying at ABK Stuttgart.

ABK Stuttgart sees itself as an experimental space that brings together teaching and research and fosters creative and artistic innovation. A comprehensive range of academic courses in the history, theory and philosophy of architecture, design and art is open to students from all disciplines. Through public exhibitions, lectures, symposia and publications, the Academy contributes to academic discourse. As one of the few art academies in Germany to hold university status, ABK Stuttgart has the right to award doctoral degrees and habilitations.

ABK Stuttgart has an exceptional infrastructure and is centrally located, directly adjacent to the world-renowned Weißenhofsiedlung. In addition to more than thirty workshops, its Weißenhof campus features its own library with a carefully selected collection of national and international publications in the fields of architecture, fine arts, design, photography, art history and theory, and conservation and restoration, as well as several exhibition spaces, a cinema and its own canteen. For class residencies, ABK Stuttgart has access to the Reinwaldhaus in Bodman on Lake Constance. The Academy can be reached from Stuttgart Central Station within just a few minutes by public transport.
