The Biennale Architettura takes place mainly every two years, alternating with the Biennale di Venezia, and is one of the most important architecture exhibitions in the world. This year’s exhibition Intelligens. Natural. Artificial. Collective. from May 10 to November 23, 2025 invites different types of intelligence to work together to rethink the built environment. Eight current and former Solitude fellows and one former Solitude juror will take part in the Biennale.
Together with her collective, current Solitude fellow Atsuko Mochida presents the project T-an, the art of Utushi. Mochida’s installation of metal scaffolding tubes, Dancing Teahouse, is the central element of the project and is accompanied by a video documenting the collaborative process of conception and realization. The work is inspired by traditional Japanese architecture, which puts wooden houses on foundation stones without a firm connection so they hold their structure while moving during an earthquake, just as if they were dancing.
Also participating in this year’s Architecture Biennale are:
Nomeda and Gediminas Urbonas (fellows 2002), Albena Yaneva (fellow 2004), Iassen Markov (fellow 2007/2008) as curator of the Bulgarian Pavilion, Beatriz Colomina (juror 2009–2011), Eva Franch Gilabert (fellow 2010), Farzin Lotfi-Jam (fellow 2016) as well as Elise Hunchuck (fellow 2025/2026).
