Curated by current Solitude fellow Kenneth Boa-Amponsem and co-curated by former fellow Ofili Ebube Sett the exhibition Hands That Speak will be on view in the Strzelski Galerie until June 6.
Hands That Speak demonstrates how materials, textures, and forms function as carriers of individual histories, collective memories, and cultural narratives through a varied range of artists working with textiles, sound, painting, and photography. By bringing together six artists from Germany, Ghana, Nigeria, and Cameroon – all based in Stuttgart – it explores how their different and diverse perspectives shape their relationship towards craft and their approach to storytelling. This instigates a discussion about how perspective and identity are intertwined through both material culture and artistic expression.
During the exhibition, which is a part of the Summer of Painting II festival, Kenneth Boa-Amponsem will also be showing his pieces Royalty, I’m Too Bad, Baby, and Ama Ghana 2 The World, which tell a mix of personal and cultural stories from his time in Ghana.
