Alina Sarnatska

Born in Ukraine in 1987.

Alina Sarnatska is a playwright, writer, radio host and war veteran based in Kyiv/Ukraine. She is currently pursuing a PhD in Social Work at Uman State Pedagogical University/Ukraine and holds an MA in Social Work from the Academy of Labour and Social Relations (2021) as well as a BA in Psychology from the National Aviation University (2011), Ukraine.

Her work explores resilience, trauma, and social justice, with a particular focus on veterans, women affected by violence, and communities impacted by war. She combines testimony, research, and community-based practice.

Her recent projects include the book Those Who United Love and Courage: LGBTQ+ Veterans in the Russo-Ukrainian War (Kyiv, 2025); the radio programs [In]Justice (Kyiv FM, since 2024), Strict Reprimand, and Volunteers (Hromadske Radio, 2022–2024), as well as her role as resident playwright at the Theatre of Playwrights in Kyiv (since 2024).

She has received the Lipnevyi Med Prize (2024, Ukraine), Week of Contemporary Plays (2024, Ukraine), and Drama.ua (2025, Ukraine), earned two awards at ATYPOWO (Wrocław, Poland, 2025) and was a finalist for the Aurora Drama Award (2025, Poland). In 2024, she was a VILNO fellow (Other Education/Robert Bosch Stiftung, 2024) and founded Teplonosiї, a volunteer care network for wounded soldiers, which now has 64 members (since 2022).
