Objective of Biosphere Reserves in general is to combine interdisciplinary approaches to understand and manage changes and interactions between social and ecological systems. This unconsciously might have laid the ground for his teaching and research topics as he focuses on the democratization of the reciprocal relation between technology, individuals, nature and society. Currently, he is focusing on higher education research and action research on how to implement critical pedagogy in practice which includes the teaching of democratic decision-making. He received a master degree in philosophy of norms from Universíté Rennes 1, France, in 2010. Two years later, he completed his studies at Technische Universität Berlin (TUB), Germany, receiving the magister artium degree in philosophy. He jas actively participated in the development and implementation of Blue Engineering – Engineers with Social and Ecological Responsibility – since its beginning in 2009. As of 2012 he is lecturer for this course at TUB which is organized in a highly interactive manner that transfers the teaching and learning process mostly onto the students. He is teaching fellow of the Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft. In this position he developed a teaching/learning approach that helps to easily implement social and ecological responsibility in any lecture. He is vice-chair of the sustainability council of TUB and responsible for the development of a sustainability certificate for students.

André Baier is a fellow in the framework of a cooperation with Hybrid Plattform Berlin.
