Anna Heesen studied dramaturgy at the University of Music & Theatre »Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy« in Leipzig.

During her studies she worked as assistant director and assistant to the dramatic advisor in various theaters. She worked, among others for Carl Hegemann at the Volksbühne in Berlin as well as for Andrij Zholdak, Christoph Schlingensief and Pamela Schlewinski.
During the theater season 2008/2009 she worked as assistant to the dramatic advisor at Deutsches Schauspielhaus in Hamburg and supported amongst others the directors Sebastian Nübling, Martin Kušej, Johan Heß, René Pollesch and Samuel Weiss.
Anna Heesen has worked regularly with the directors Christoph Schlingensief and Martin Wuttke among others for the production of Der Zwischenstand der Dinge (The intermediate state of affairs) by Christoph Schlingensief at the Maxim Gorki Theater Berlin, for Gretchens Faust and Das Abenteuerliche Herz – Droge und Rausch (The Adventurous Heart – Drug and Intoxication ) with the director Martin Wuttke at the Berliner Ensemble.
