Eyad Abou Kasem is a documentary photographer and visual journalist from Damascus/Syria based in Germany.

His work explores displacement, intimacy, and forms of belonging through longterm documentary research, often moving between personal narrative and social storytelling.

In 2013, he graduated from the Department of Translatology at Damascus University. In 2019, he began studying Visual Journalism and Documentary Photography at Hochschule Hannover in Hanover/Germany and continued his studies at KASK School of Arts in Ghent/ Belgium in 2024.

His work has been exhibited internationally, including at Gulf Photo Plus in Dubai/United Arab Emirates (2024) and the Rautenstrauch-Joest Museum in Cologne/Germany (2023). Screenings have taken place at AL-BEYT at Point Éphémère and Les Nuits Photo at Espace Jemmapes in Paris/France (2022).

His work has been published among others in TIME, GEO, Stern, and ZEIT Online. He has received the Nikon Fotobus Grant and was awarded the Gabriel-Grüner Fellowship (2025).

Eyad Abou Kasem is a 2026 fellow in cooperation with Agentur Zeitenspiegel as part of the Gabriel-Grüner Fellowship.
