Jennifer H. Capraru began her career as a theatre and film actor, then trained as a director in Germany on scholarship.

She is active in film as a director, script supervisor and casting director, and has apprenticed with directors such as Jeremy Podeswa, Clement Virgo and John Greyson as director’s assistant. She worked for 10 years in professional theatre in both Canada and Europe in many capacities, and is founder and Artistic Director of Theatre Asylum, where she has directed, dramaturged and produced critically and publicly acclaimed Canadian premieres of inter/national plays.

Grants and Awards: Recipient of the Baden-Württemberg Directing Residency in 1992; 1996 Artist-in-Residence at Akademie Schloss Solitude; Nominated for the John Hirsch Director’s Award in 1998.
