Born 1996 in Hungary.
Júlia Kustos is a Hungarian poet and writer based in Budapest. She is the author of two poetry collections, Hullámtörő (Breakwater) (2022) and Tehetetlen bálványok (Helpless Idols) (2025), both published by Jelenkor. Her debut collection received the Füst Milán Prize in 2024, and in 2025 she was awarded the Péter Horváth Literary Scholarship.
Her poetry combines personal and mythological perspectives, exploring questions of (female) identity, power, intimacy, and self-invention through a language characterised by irony, fragmentation, and formal experimentation. Her work has been featured by Versopolis and translated into several languages.
Kustos has participated in international residency programs, including the Visegrad Literary Residency in Bratislava/Slovakia and a residency at the Literarisches Colloquium Berlin, Germany.
She is currently working on A Harmadik/Királyság (The Third/Kingdom), her third poetry collection, and her first novel, K. Júlia félrevezetése (The Misleading of Júlia K.).
In 2026, Júlia Kustos is a fellow at Akademie Schloss Solitude as part of the Péter Horváth Literary Fellowship, in cooperation with the Péter Horváth Foundation and Literarisches Colloquium Berlin (LCB).
