Julian Palacz, born 1983, lives and works in Vienna/Austria. From 2003–2010 he studied Digital Art at the University of Applied Arts Vienna under Peter Weibel and Virgil Widrich. He is the Co-founder of the publishing house TRAUMAWIEN for digital poetry.

Julian Palacz’s conceptual works deal with the aesthetics of data and information traces left behind both digitally and physically. Customized software and algorithms build the basis of his process in reference to their usage in contemporary politics and society.

His last exhibitions include the solo exhibition Pattern Recognition at the Austrian Culture Forum Warsaw (2017). He participated in numerous group exhibitions such as TRACE, Museum of Contemporary Art, Belgrade/Serbia (2018); In die Stadt, Carinthian Museum of Modern Art, Klagenfurt (2018); Open Codes, ZKM | Zentrum für Kunst und Medien, Karlsruhe/Germany (2017); ich weiß nicht, Austrian Museum of Applied Arts, Vienna/Austria (2017).

Additionally, Julian Palacz received grants and stipends, among others: fellowship AiR Zagreb (2018), State Stipend for Video- and Media Art, Federal Chancellery of Austria (2015), Swatch Art Peace Hotel Residency Shanghai (2013), Honorary Mention Interactive Art, Prix Ars Electronica (2011).

Julian Palacz is a fellow in the framework of the »WimmelResearch-Fellowship«, a joint project between Robert Bosch GmbH, Akademie Schloss Solitude, and Wimmelforschung.
