Julio Cann González
Julio Cann González is a composer and transdisciplinary artist based in Mexico City. His practice spans a wide range of media – from performance, painting, and poetry to social relations and virtual reality – and is often situated within the realm of assemblage, a term that refers both to collage and network. His work engages with nonlinear temporalities, fluid identities, and speculative portals between worlds.
He holds a BFA in Recorded Music from New York University (2013) and an MFA in Composition, Experimental Sound Practices, and Integrated Media from the California Institute of the Arts (2017). He was previously production manager at the independent label Chimera Music, where he earned credits on albums by Yoko Ono, John Lennon, and Cibo Matto, among others.
Cann González has collaborated with philosopher Armen Avanessian, with joint works presented at Kaaitheater in Brussels and the Thomas Mann House in Los Angeles/USA. With over fifteen years of experience composing original scores and creating sound design for theater, film, and television, he continues to explore sound as a connective and narrative force. In Mexico, he is honored to be based at the historic Galería de Arte Mexicano.
