Born 1978 in Essen/Germany.

After an apprenticeship as graphic design assistant in Münster/Germany, Kathrin Beßen studied media and cultural studies (BA 2005) and art history (MA) at the Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf/Germany.

In 2006, Beßen worked as a project assistant for the exhibition »ZERO. International Avant-garde of the 50s and 60s« and in 2004 for »Dubuffet and Art Brut« at museum kunst palast, Düsseldorf. She also worked as a freelancer for the museum’s exhibitions »Artaud – A staged life« (2005) and »Afrika Remix« (2003).

During her studies she also worked for several art galleries, the artist Bogomir Ecker (2005) and was part of the exhibition management team for various projects, such as »De Leipzig a Düsseldorf. Figuration alemana actual« realised for MACUF, La Coruna (2006).
