Leon Hösl is a curator, art educator, and critic. He lives and works between Vienna and Freiburg im Breisgau. His curatorial practice focuses on experimental exhibition formats, collaborative working methods, and approaches to art education.

Hösl studied art history at the University of Vienna and has worked with, among others, Kunsthalle Basel, the 9th Berlin Biennale, documenta 14, and the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna. In 2018, he participated in a curatorial residency in Lagos at the invitation of the Goethe-Institut. He was also a co-founder of the Biennale für Freiburg, where he served as artistic director and managing director.

Since 2020, Hösl has regularly collaborated with Magdalena Stöger on site-specific exhibition and publication projects. Their collaborative practice explores constructions of knowledge and history, performative strategies, and the conditions of artistic production.

Their joint projects include Repeatedly failing to align with light (Camera Austria, Graz, 2025), Flucht in die Öffentlichkeit (f/stop Festival für Fotografie, Leipzig, 2024), Das Cathrin Pichler Archiv von RPU-Artaud-001 bis DAV-Plakate-029 (Exhibit Galerie, Vienna, 2024), Coincidence of Wants (MUSA, Vienna, 2023), and Orbs und Souvenirs (Black Forest Institute of Art, Lenzkirch, 2022).

Leon Hösl is a 2026/2027 curatorial fellow of Akademie Schloss Solitude.
