Born 1981 in Porto/Portugal.

Manuel Montenegro holds a master in architecture (Faculdade de Arquitectura da Universidade do Porto, FAUP), and is a doctoral candidate at the Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule Zürich (ETHZ), under the supervision of Prof. Philip Ursprung, researching the connections between teaching and practice in the Architecture of the School of Porto, during the period of the Democratic Revolution of 1974 (due 2018). He was supported by a scholarship from FAUP (2004), PhD fellowship from the Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia (2013–2017), Summer Research Fellowship at the Canadian Center for Architecture, Montreal/Canada (2017).

Manuel Montenegro is a practising architect, teacher (design studio, construction and history in Porto) and guest lecturer in Europe and USA, independent researcher and curator.

He collaborated with Álvaro Siza to relocate the Royal Academy Columns in Somerset (2017). Recently, he is preparing a book on Nicolau Nasoni, a late baroque architect who transformed Porto (2019), and another on Siza and Gowan social housing designs (2018). He curated several exhibitions within Drawing Matter – Álvaro Siza, Social Landscapes (Aalto Symposium, Jyväskylä/Finland 2015); Forum Malagueira (Évora/Portugal 2015); This was Tomorrow: Reinventing Architecture 1953–1978 (Swiss Architechture Museum, Basel/Switzerland 2016, with Nicholas Olsberg and Markus Lahteenmaki); James Gowan and Alvaro Siza: Housing and the City (AA, London/Great Britain 2017, with Ellis Woodman).
