Born 1966 in Neumünster.

Studies of art history, philosophy and modern German literature at the University of Hamburg (1986-1992), with several stays abroad including Rom and Paris. 1997 Ph.D. thesis on „Nicolas Poussins Correspondence“.

From 1997 to 2001 researcher in the department for political iconography at the Warburg-Haus, University of Hamburg. Since 1995 teaching positions in Hamburg and Berlin.

Clark Art Institute Fellowship 2000; J. Paul Getty Postdoctoral Fellowship 2001.

Matthias Bruhn is cofounder and editor of “arthist.net”, the information network

for art history in the H-Net (Humanities & Social Sciences Online, Michigan State University).

His book „Bildwirtschaft – zur Verwaltung und Verwertung der Sichtbarkeit“ (Picture Economics – Administration and Evaluation of Visuality), was published in 2003 with VDG, Weimar.

During his fellowship at Solitude Matthias Bruhn will write a study on guide-books for photo professionals.
