Mitra Wakil spent her school days in Munich/Germany and Washington/USA. She studied in Vienna with Prof. Manfred Pernice and in Munich at Akademie der Bildenden Künste with Prof. Olaf Metzel where she graduated from with a diploma and Meisterschüler (master student) distinction.

She works as an artist and in education. Wakil develops participatory formats for dealing with 3D technologies which repeatedly result from collaborating with Fabian Hesse, with fab labs, or other open workshops for digital fabrication. In public art projects, she raises questions about the construction and dissolution of identity. She initiates artistic workshops to work collectively on marginalized knowledge about female organs and to reformulate it.

Since 2014, she is active as NO FUTURE Komplex together with Stephan Janitzky and Sebastian Stein. Under this label, they examine hermetical formatting and theory production in contemporary art. Exhibitions, projects, and workshops took place at Pinakothek der Moderne Munich/Germany, Kunstverein Wolfsburg/Germany, Haus der Kunst Munich/Germany, 54. Venice Biennale/Italy, M1 Boskamp-Stiftung Hohenlockstedt/Germany, WUK Wien/Austria, Halle für Kunst Lüneburg/Germany, Lenbachhaus Munich/Germany, and Kunstverein Göttingen/Germany. She received prices and fellowships for her works, such as Bayerischer Kunstförderpreis.

Together with Fabian Hesse, she is a fellow from November 1, 2018 to February 28, 2019 in the framework of the »WimmelResearch-Fellowship« – a joint project between Robert Bosch GmbH, Akademie Schloss Solitude, and Wimmelforschung.
