Born 1973 in Cesis/Latvia.

Studied philosophy at the University of Latvia/Riga. Works for the daily newspaper Diena.

He has written two collections of short stories, seven novels and innumerable articles. Two of his novels have received the 2nd prize of the literary journal Karogs. In his work he deals with the history of Latvia, its myths and legends, recent Soviet Union reality, as well as with possible future scenarios (like in the novel “Plans ledus” [“Thin Ice”]).

Fellowship from The Writers’ Union of Latvia (1998), the Baltic Centre for Writers and Translators (Visby, Sweden, 1998), and the Ledig House International Writers’ Residency at Art Omi (Upstate NY/USA, 1999).
