Sînziana Păltineanu is a writer and historian based in Heidelberg. After studying English and Japanese at the Babeş-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca/Romania she pursued graduate studies in history at the Central European University in Budapest/Hungary. In 2013 she graduated with a Ph.D. in comparative history of Central, Southeastern, and Eastern Europe. She published articles and reviews on nationalism studies, Begriffsgeschichte, history from below, and women’s history. Sînziana Păltineanu also writes short stories and experiments with mixed media. She was a visiting fellow at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY/USA, at Institut National des Langues et Civilisations Orientales in Paris/France, and at the University of Regensburg, Germany.

Her first novel titled Elephant Chronicles (German title: Elefantenchroniken) is forthcoming with the experimental publishing project Fiktion (http://fiktion.cc). It will be published as a free e-book, in English and German, in early 2015.
