Sonia Mehra Chawla is an artist based in New Delhi/India. She received her BFA in 2001 and MFA in 2004–2005 from Delhi University’s College of Art, New Delhi. Chawla has an interdisciplinary practice as an artist, photographer and researcher. Her artistic practice explores notions of selfhood, nature, ecology, sustainability, and conservation.  

Chawla was a fellow of the Charles Wallace India Trust of the British Council, and was in that context awarded a scholarship for a research project in the United Kingdom (2014–2015). Furthermore, she was a fellow of the Art + Science residency program of Khoj International Artists’ Association in New Delhi, supported by Wellcome Trust UK/DBT India Alliance (2017–2018). 

Sonia Mehra Chawla’s work was included in diverse exhibitions such as Fragile Kinships, Embassy of Switzerland, New Delhi (2019); The Undivided Mind, Khoj International Artists Association, New Delhi (2018); A World in a City. Zoological and Botanic Gardens curated by Kaiwan Mehta, ifa Gallery, Stuttgart/Germany (2017); Planes of Experience, Zones of Action, Goethe-Institut, Mumbai/India (2017); Yinchuan Biennale 2016 – For an Image, Faster Than Light, curated by Bose Krishnamachari, Museum of Contemporary Art Yinchuan/China (2016); and Ein Baum Ist Ein Baum Ist Ein Baum, curated by Herwig Guratzsch and Kirsten Nordahl, Beck & Eggeling International Fine Art, Düsseldorf/Germany (2015–2016).
