Born 1965 in Memmingen/Germany.
 
Sonja Beeck studied architecture at the RWTH Aachen and received her doctor’s degree in 2000 at the Institut für Orts-, Regional- und Landesplanung, Lehrstuhl für Städtebau und Entwerfen (Institute for local, regional and land-use planning and designing) of the University of Karlsruhe.
She worked as an architect and city developer. From 2006 to 2009 she was guest-lecturer at the University of Innsbruck and taught the subject »Stadt und Landschaft« (city and landscape) at the Institut für Städtebau und Raumplanung (Institute for urban development and spatial planning). Since 2010 she has been working as a professor for urban management at the University of Kassel.
 
Sonja Beeck is a guest of the program art, science & business during September 2012 in the frame of a sabbatical.
 
Selected projects:
IBA STADTUMBAU 2010. Main focus on project development and transformation management in the cities participating in the IBA (International Building Exhibition Urban Development Saxony-Anhalt), 2003–2010.
Together with Martin Heller, Sonja Beeck was the head of the Vorbereitungsteam (Preparation Team) IBA Berlin 2020 of the senate department for urban development Berlin, 2010–2011.
Creation of four concepts for city development for the city of Nuremberg in cooperation with the Büro für Urbane Projekte (bureau for urban projects) Leipzig, 2011-2012.
