Born 1959 in the Ukraine.

Before he started working as a stage director in 1989, Valerij Bilchenko worked as an actor.
In his home country Ukraine he founded the Kiev experimental theatre group, which then turned into the Kiev Street Theatre KET he still works with.

In 1997, Valerij Bilchenko came to Germany and worked as a director for productions at the Deutsches Theater Berlin (»Poljot«, a farce by Alexej Schipenko, 1999; a new adaptation of Tchechov’s »Ivanov«, 1999) and for various productions of the European Theatre Institute Berlin.

In 2002 he directed the film »Porträt vor weißer Wand« [Portrait in front of a white wall].
