Performative Reading
Pygmalion wants to create Galatea. He chooses an egg as raw material. The egg, however, already has a well-known form. Pygmalion doesn’t worry; he tries to hammer the egg into shape, to modify, dent, castigate it, to bring it into the desired form. The egg, the essential, original and perfect element, is annoyed and secretly complains. Then it rebels and expresses its annoyance by spinning on its own axis, like a globe. But Pygmalion doesn’t let himself be confused, he holds on to the egg and affixes it with the help of a special multidimensional contraption. In desperation, the egg gathers all its strength, flies up into the air and bang, hits Pygmalion in the brow. It runs over his nose down to his chin and mouth and fulfills the dumb creator with disgust and salaciousness. (Liliana Corobca)
