On January 18 and 19, 2019, master students of Merz Akademie will present a two-day conference facing the power of illusion between film and the world. One of the speakers is Tom Rosenberg, currently fellow at Solitude. He will talk about his most recent film project »Three Trials« on January 19, 2019 at 11 am.

Based on philosopher Gilles Deleuze’s anarchistic overcoming of classic models of truth, the »Trugbildkonferenz« questions what it means to free ourselves from the illusion of the illusion. What kind of chaotic world do we find if we follow the power of illusion and mirage? What would happen with our senses and way of thinking?

Different philosophical and filmic positions will discuss the relation of authenticity and illusion, facts and fiction. Especially facing the current demand for more factuality and truth in times of fake news, the conference insists on a criticism of the self-identity of truth following theoretical aspects of perception. The all-day program on January 19 deals with the question how filmmakers position themselves in that area of tension.

Tom Rosenberg’s lecture and the following film screenings by André Siegers and Katharina Jabs on January 19, 2019 in English. Discussions and talks in German.
