Born 1966 in Cologne. Lives in Munich.

Studied German and journalism at the University of Mainz and literature and theatre at the Free University (FU) of Berlin.

Since 1989 assistant to the director among others at the Hebbel Theater Berlin and at the Schauspiel Bonn, and as dramatic adviser and art director at the Studiobühne of the FU Berlin.

Since 1993 director of the Studiobühne of the FU Berlin.

For several years tutor-teacher at the FU Berlin and

free lance editor at the Rowohlt theatrical publishing house in Reinbek/Hamburg.

1995 dramatic adviser at the Kleist Theater Frankfurt/Oder.

1996-98 dramatic adviser at the Stadttheater Hildesheim.

Since then: Free-lance dramatic adviser and author for among others Haydntage Eisenstadt, the Staatstheater Mainz and the Schloßtheater Rheinsberg.

Since 2001 dramaturge at the Bayerisches Staatsschauspiel München.

Andrea Vilter is leading the theatre festival „Solitude in the Box” on occasion of Solitude’s 10th anniversary (in collaboration with the Staatstheater Stuttgart).
