Geboren 1979 in Ottawa Ontario/Canada.

Black received her B. A. in Composition in 2004 from McGill University, Montréal/Canada with Prof. Brian Cherney. From 2004 to 2006 she undertook further composition studies with Prof. York Höller and Hans-Ulrich Humpert at the Hochschule für Musik in Cologne/Germany.

She is currently studying composition with Mathias Spahlinger, electronic music with Orm Finnendahl, and film music with Cornelius Schwehr at the Hochschule für Musik in Freiburg.

Black has also performed and toured as an actress and in numerous bands including »The New International Standards«, and as a percussionist/speaker in the dadaist performance-art trio/cult phenomenon »Hyperprism« (Montréal).

Her pieces have been performed in Germany and in Canada by various ensembles including Ensemble Modern (Frankfurt), Nouvel Ensemble Moderne, Quintett Boréale and Ensemble Synapse (all Montréal). Selected pieces: »Rock Paper Scissors« for bass clarinet, bass trombone and double bass (2006), WP Freiburg; »Miniature for Saxophone Quartet« (2005), WP Cologne by Con Calore Quartett; »Collapsable Uprisings« for clarinet, trumpet, violoncello (2003), choreography Katie Ward; »At the risk of Sounding« for drum solo and electronics (2003), WP Montréal.

Black was selected to participate in the 8th Young Artists Forum Competition at the Gesellschaft für Neue Musik and Ensemble Modern, and has received numerous prizes for her compositional achievements including the composition scholarship of the Mozart-Stiftung, Frankfurt, a DAAD scholarship (both 2007), and a Stipendium at the 43rd International Summer Courses for New Music, Darmstadt/Germany (2006).
