Goutam Ghosh received his MA in Fine Art from Oslo Academy of Fine Art, Oslo/Norway, and from Maharaja Sayaji Rao University, Baroda, Gujarat/India. He was selected as a fellow in the program city as studio, initiated by CSDS Sarai, New Delhi/India. In 2011, he has received a Norwegian state educational grant to study at Oslo Academy of Fine Art. During his stay in Norway he has received (what?) from Norske Billedkunstnere. Currently, he is working with Jason Havenerass on a 16 mm film project, supported by Norwegian Arts Council’s Audio Visual project grant.

Generally, in painting, he treats the surface as a note book where remembering (geo-biological) myths, make forms and their aspirations, in gestures of scribbles, marks, dots, signs, errors, and repetition. The mode of repetition and rendering of multiplicities lead towards an abstraction and animation. His present practice seeks an exit where the phenomena of life and dreams appear on geo-biological substance (e.g. rock, algae, crystal) in their microscopic behavior and patterns.

Selected solo exhibitions include: bootstrapping Project 88, Mumbai/India, …ASCRIBING TO THEM BIRTH, ANIMATION, SENSE AND ACCIDENT…, Standard, Oslo (2015); Søyle gallery, Oslo Academy of Fine Arts, Oslo (2013).

Selected group exhibitions include: Between the Ticks of the Watch, The Renaissance Society, Chicago/USA (2016); Thinking Tantra, Art room London and Jhaveri Contemporary, Mumbai/India (2016); Dal Dizionario, Galleria Raucci/Santamaria, Naples/Italy (2015); Shoe show, Gallery Podium, Oslo (2013); Graduation show at Kunstnernes Hus, Oslo (2015) – mostly with drawing, painting, and 16 mm films in expressionist-gestural to minimalist, reductive modes.

Currently, Goutam Ghosh lives and works in India.
