Janine Jembere is a filmmaker and soundartist working in different constellations on performances, educational projects, films and filmprograms, soundworks, and interventions. She studied visual communication/media at the Hochschule für bildende Künste Hamburg, Germany, from 2005 until 2011 and was a guest student at the Department for Fine Arts and Design at the Addis Abeba University, Ethiopia in 2008. Since 2014 she is a participant in the PhD in Practice program at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, Austria.

Her current works such as the collective performances Decolonize! Bodies Minds! Perceptions! and Female Gaze revolve around sensuality and the body, mainly questioning concepts of representation/translatability, ableism, race, and gender.

Her works were on show at amongst others Haus der Kulturen der Welt, Berlin/Germany (2014), 36. Duisburger Filmwoche, Germany (2012), Temps D’Images, Lisboa/Portugal (2012), and Golden Pudel Club Hamburg (2012).
