Johanna Markert works as artist and curator and lives in Berlin.

Her curatorial practice oscillates between an interest in storytelling, translation and narratology on the one hand, and an artistic practice on the other. Together with Lukas Ludwig and Florian Model, she co-directs the non-profit organization anorak. Their latest exhibition project Gemini (2018) took the figure of the double to explore ways in which myth, fate and history – forms of preconceived narratives – collide within present day imaginaries. Gemini was realized in cooperation with Akademie Schloss Solitude, Künstlerhaus Stuttgart and Delphi Cinema and unfolded in online and print publications, film screenings, dinners and two exhibition chapters.

From 2016–2018, Johanna was part of the curatorial team and project manager of Techne, a production platform by experimental theatre Rampe and Künstlerhaus Stuttgart where she co-curated the exhibition Techne and the Decency of Means together with Fatima Hellberg. Markert has taught at HfBK Hamburg, the University of Stuttgart and Merz Akademie, and holds a studio residency at Künstlerhaus Stuttgart.
