Karolina Kucia

Born 1978 in Wadowice/Poland.

Karolina Kucia studied at the Poznan University of Arts (1998–2004) in Poland and at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design (2003) in Ljubljana/Slovenia. From 2007 to 2013 she studied performance, art and theory at the Theatre Academy in Helsinki/Finland.

Since 2004 she has been working as independent artist in Poland and Finland. In 2010 the Kukkia book was published, a publication of works done by Karolina Kucia and Tero Nauha as Kukkia group from 2004 to 2008. In 2011 she coordinated the group and the performance of Oops! Sorry at the Theater Academy in Helsiniki.

She was involved in the creation and coordination of the APProject (2011–2012), which combines social design, art objects and research on the condition of precarious work. Part of this project are several subproducts such as: Placenta bag, Parasitical Architecture (presented at Kronika – Center for Contemporary Arts in Bytom/Poland), Parasitical Furniture (presented at the Gallery Augusta in Suomenlinna, Helsinki during the Fake Finns and Wannabe Swedes Festival) and 10 Workplaces. Furthermore, she participated in the Kafkamachine: film made by Kafka project in collaboration with Ueinzz Theater (Sao Paulo/Brazil), Presque Ruins (Paris/France) and Mollecular Organisation (Helsinki), which included several workshops at the PerformingArtsForum (2010), at the Haus der Kulturen der Welt, Berlin/Germany, and a workshop with Pál Pelbart (2011), organized by KATAJA, Mollecular Organisation, Future Art Base and Art School Maa. The related book Kafkamachine was published by n-1 Company.

Karolina Kucia is Vice Managing Director of the Robin Hood Minor Asset Management Cooperative (2011–2013), an organisation which works with an alternative method of financial investment. Her work includes several presentations about the Robin Hood Minor Asset Management around the world, at events and places such as the PerformingArtsForum in St. Erme /France (2010), the Documenta 13 (2012) in Kassel/Germany during the seminar Run Morphogenesis by SCEPSI (European School of Social Imagination) and Franco Bifo Berardi or during the Night of Arts at the Muu Gallery in Helsinki (2012).
She has also worked as producer at the Future Art Base (2012), an project initiated at the Aalto University in Helsinki.

Karolina Kucia received the Dokowicz Award for The Best Master Thesis from the Poznan Art Academy in 2004 and a one-year artist grant for multidisciplinary artists from the Arts Promotion Centre in Finland (2013).
